my motoro just gave birth to 2 female pups:D i was starting worry. came home from work today and feeding the tank as usual when i notice them. i have a bunch of plecos in the tank. should i separate them? have you ever seen new born pups eat massivores? they seem to be hovering the pellets i dropped for the others. the adults are the only real predators in the tank, they won't eat their own young, would they? anyway, the parents are spoken for already. i'm ready to move to leos now:headbang2
enjoy the pics.

ps. mommy is the 3rd pic. she is about 14". daddy is about 12" he is skinny because he just came out of a 3mo isolation (he chases girls non stop). i moved him back because i just sold my smaller female motoro.

Thats cool nice lookin pups.
The pups might be chewin the pellets but are they eating them?
I would remove the pups.
Suprised to see plecos with your rays as they normaly suck on them.

yeah, i never seen any of the plecos suck on the rays. i have currently 2x 10" sunshine, 1x 12" royal, 1x 10" watermellon/spotted royal, 1x 6" 3beacon, 1x 5" sunshine, 1x 4"gold nugget. the flagtail doesn't bother the rays either. i'm thinking about moving the father instead of the pups because he is chewing on the mommy again. will see in the morning.

If the male is left with the female they will definitely mate again he might even have a go at the pups because they will smell like the female. I like your list of plecos but not the kind of thing i would keep with rays. Hope the pups do ok and that you get your leo's soon.

it's now day 4. everyone seems to be ok. the daddy left mommy alone in the past 2 days now. mommy is eating like normal. babies are happy. did a 20% water change yesterday. the temp dropped 3deg. was kind of worried but the pups are ok this morning. the pleco are more interested in the tree stumps and carrots than the rays. i'll put the parents up for sale so i can get some leo babies.

just an update. i removed the pups on day 4 so i can feed them better. they showed no interests in thawed blood worms or cut up red wigglers for a solid 2wks!!! now, they wolf down whole red wigglers without hesitation. no luck with massivores yet.
