So I've had my perfectly good, established, healthy 55G tank for about 2months now. All fish were happy and so on.

Today I decided to take all the gravel out and replace it with sand...

I collected all the gravel out into a bucket, which seemed like it took forever, went to my LFS and bought some sand.

Following the directions I let the sand sit in a container for a while, making sure the sand was saturated.

I poor the sand into my 50% filled tank and what do you know, my filter sucks up the sand.. No surprise there.. I'm an idiot.

I was forced to go out and buy a new filtering system, was disapointed when my other 2 biowheels didn't fit and whatnot. What can you do.

Now I have a 5-6 inch CK, a 4 inch GT, 5 inch Severum, and a 5 inch poly all in a 10G tank while I attempt to cycle my basically new tank.

The sand is still settling, I added so enzyme stuff for the bio wheels or whatever. I don't know.

I'm really bummed and disapointed in myself for not researching a bit more as to go about doing this properly.

My question is, what should I do about my fish, filter, and so on?

Thanks for the help.

Put the old filter media in the new tank.

If your beneficial bacteria from your "old" tank never dried out you can stick that in the "new" tank. Otherwise I would definitely purchase some Bio-Spira ASAP. I have used this and it does work. This is why you see everybody running canisters and HOB's, just one of the benefits of running dual filtration on all your tanks.

use some of the gravel on top of the sand to help seed it. I agree with ewurm, use your old media in your new filter. Anything that would have BB should be used.

I agree Bio Spira is good stuff but expensive. Good Luck.
