Hey everyone!

I'm back after a few years decided my house needed some sprucing! So I just picked up a 65gallon aqueon ensemble from PetSmart whish came with the stand, lids and light, and have it where I want it... I'm definitely thinking Cichlids again just not exactly sure since it's been a while.. I know I want to get different from what I had which were Oscar, convicts, Dempsey, severum, ghost knife and a few others I cant remember. I put in a order on amazon and probably saved my self an easy $100 on the equipment even with paying 2 day shipping SCORE! Anyways here's what I got and what I'm thinking..

The tank is 18.4" long, 36.4" wide, 25"high as per petsmart website.

Ordered one Aqueon 250w pro heater, I'll get another in a bit trying to space out purchasing.
Aqueon Power Filter 55/75 I'll also order another one.
SunSun 800gph power head reviews were great and it was cheap sooo why not?
and a 6 pack of filters.

I'm thinking of going with natural rock substrate, Black/ or blue background probably black who am I kidding.. and I am definitely going to get some driftwood this time and build some scaping with slate I think and some fake plants!

I would love to have a cichlid pike, maybe a bichir/ ropefish variant, and some others (suggestions) to help liven the tank up a bit.

However I did see a fish at the petstore I visited the other day with a fish labeled as a marble gar. They looked really neat and resembled a gar but I have a feeling its not a gar since I've never heard of those. Which I would like to get if I can.

Anywaysss throw me suggestions on fiiish and what you think about my stock

For the tank size.... have you thought of like a hap / peacock tank. You could get a bunch of colorful Africans. Don't buy from one of the big chains though. Find a local breeder and do a male only tank. You'll be happy with the colors and the fact that you can overstock to keep aggression down. I have one in my house. It is a conversation piece. People are always asking if its saltwater do to the colors. They are very active too so people really notice them. Just my thoughts.

Again as said above stay away from big box store pet shops with life stock. I found 2 breeders locally that breed peacocks and haps in there basement. They are awesome at what they do and the fish seriously are high quality and do resemble some of saltwater fish.

yeah I've thought about Africans also. just not really sure tbh. Are you suggesting peacock bass? Don't think I've heard of a different peacock yet. Like I said it's been a while so I've forgottin abbreviations for fish etc also

No by peacock I ment peacock african cichlids. Google saphire star, lemon jake, otter point, eureka red, and bengi cichlid. You'll be impressed but here color.

Will do thank you! Although I do want a pike lol. Is my tank big enough for the xingu I'm or the other one that gets to 12-14"s?

Xingu's are gonna be hard to come by because you'll need to find someone whose had them awhile. That's because as far as I know there aren't any more wild coming in due to drug trafficking making collection at presently nearly impossible.

That plus your tank size is IMO to small for a large pike. Pike are active and strong swimmers and need a minimum of a 6' x 2'. There are many dwarf pike that offer a lot of the appeal of their bigger brethren. Crenicichla sp Orinoco. is availble right now from Jeff Rapps and WetSpot has Belly Crawlers.

Ah alright I thought about the dwarfs also but never really saw to many people talk about them on here, I'll have to look them up. Is Jeff Rapps a member on here?
