well i made it.2 and half long weeks out in the desert training realy let me know how much my life realy sucks :( well i only got to deal with it for 1 more year so i guess thats not thta bad. wow tho just this long and my fish long way biger. i cant imagine what they will look like whenn i come back from a 7 mon long tour in iraq. anyway back to fish keeping. i have a ? can i reuse filters. you know the blue ones that go in the hang on filters. can you rinse them out and stuff and reuse them or is it better just to buy new ones? thanks for the help everyone. oh and did i miss anything cool?

Welcome back. I reuse mine and I think it's been over a year since I bought new ones. I just rinse it and try to get all the gunk out.

I reuse mine too, I just clean them, and when they start to tear i just buy new ones

Welcome back, USMCtanker! Glad to see you had a safe trip back!

Anyways, yeah... it would be cheaper and more sensible to rinse and reuse your old filter cartridges over again. It all depends on how badly worn the cartridges are? If the blue padded material is still tight and intact, go ahead and reuse them. If it is loosely worn, with holes, then replace them.

To replace the carbon media inside... use a sharp X-Acto blade knife to slice a small slit @t the TOP of the cartridge (where the blue padded mat is sewn into the black plastic seam)... dump out the old carbon and pour in the new desired filter media... (carbon, ammo-chips, ammo-carb, etc.). Then rinse and shake. That's what I do anyways. Saves you money for other stuff??... like more fish! ;)

welcome back bro, I'm glad to see that all is well.

Welcome back, i always get new media
