So I have a tank I'm interested in, and I might go take a look at it. Its a relatively good price for a 300 gallon with the tank, stand, and canopy. But...i know I've asked this question before haha. It's 24 inches tall and my dad doesn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on it. So, he's asked me to look into lights...Which I already have, but I don't want to spend that much on them either
I know metal halides will probably be the best, but I was hoping I could get away with maybe two 400w?

I would only want to grow the more versatile softies, (zoanthus, shrooms, etc.)

Welcome back!

Dad doesn't want to spend very much money but he is going to buy you a 300 gallon tank? I need new parents lol.

If you just want to grow softies then you don't need MH's at all. T5's or PC's will do the trick.

Really? How many watts do you recommend? &maybe link me to a good fixture?

96" x 30"

I would do 3x 250w MH and then splash with some atinic lighting...powercompact, vho etc...until you get the exact color you want.

There are too many variables to list for the atinics, but that is the basic idea and direction that I would take with lighting this tank.
