ok so i bought substrate from petco and i wasnt thinking and i just threw the whole 30 pounds of sand inthere was i suppose to clean it or something cause now my tank is super cloudy and i dont know what to do

yup, u were supposed to clean it before placing it in there. if you don't take it out and clean it, u'll be looking at weeks of cloudy water

Is there fish in the tank?

ya my friend did the same thing and he said it took him lke 4 day to get clear with 3 filters running in it and it started to clear up to day enough so where i could add my rocks and ya i do have fish i have 3 bichir and 2 knives a clown and a brown knife

37gal i bought the knives when there 2weeks old atleast thats what the guy at the lfs said there really small maybe 1" but it sounds like its older

30 lbs sounds like a lot.. but it's not. I've got 40 lbs in my 56 column tank and i personally think it's just right.

I had over 100 pounds of sand for my morays and still wasnt enough. I made the same mistake with the sand except I did clean it first, just not enough. And yes took literally two weeks of syphoning and water changes until it was clear. As bad as it sounds, let it settle then sturr it back up. All the good stuff will settle in a few min and all the cloudyness you syphon out and replace with clean water. Takes a lil longer bUt your sand will look sharper after as all the cloudy dusty stuff will have been removed.

i put builders sand in my tank and just ran my filter for ~1 week and it cleared up just fine. Though this was without fish..
