i've had my p's for about 4-5 months, they used to eat GREAT like mad tear everything up, now there a bit bigger and they NEVER will eat in front of me, only one of them will eat in front of me and right away. i kno p's are shy i love them but i want them to eat a lil in front of me :(

Yeah thats kinda strange,my little blue ram only comes out if I'm wearing a white or lite colored shirt, seriously.none of the other fish care but he just wont come out in the open.Fish are strange little critters.

What were you feeding and what are you feeding now? Makes you wonder if they can learn or not...

Now that they are larger try feeding them less often and only open the tank when you feed, also if you are using feeders drop in only one at a time and wait until that one is eaten before adding the next.

they should be around 4-5'' in size i think you should be pumping them full of food as they are growing really slow.

here is something i posted in feb 2004 on another board about feeding my piranha when i kept them.
the piranha were 2 reds and 1 piraya and 2 caribe which were always first to eat and 1 or 2 of the reds were not coming out for food and would not eat straight away.
i used this method whenever i had this problem with pygos although never had the problem with caribe.

i did an experiment a few months ago with my p's where i added enough food for all but one of them.
the problem was a few eating and the others leaving food until after the main piranhas had eaten, this was not good for my water and i wanted them to eat everything asap.
i was feeding them everyday and the usual suspects still came for the food first and the others ended up with none.
it got to the stage where the p's that were not getting the food decided to go for it first to eat which is what i wanted.
in the end they all would compete for food equally so i started adding enough so they all could eat which they did and they always came for the food straight away this lasted until i sold my p's the other day and the same p's always eat first but feeding did not last more than 2 minutes

I was thinking they would be around 4-5" by now, what temp do you keep them at? Giving them a feeder or 2 at a time takes longer to get them fed but makes them feed more aggressively.

Odd
