im using a raw shrimp, so how long do i keep the shrimp in the tank also i had to add baking soda to raise ph level so do i add baking soda every day til it goes up and am i going to have to add baking soda every time i do a water change?

why do you need to raise pH? Just leave the shrimp in the tank until ammonia and nitrite are 0. Should take around a month. Don't do any water changes in the time being

the ammonia will lower the pH for a while

if you buy the test kits for ammo and nitrite you'll know excatly how long..

No need to worry about ph just yet or you can always put in a bag of crushed coral in your filter which you will need to do sooner or later for Africans. Like Onion said, wait for ammonia and nitrite to turn 0 and there's no need to change water in a fishless cycle. Get a squeeze from an established filter sponge (If you don't have any, go to your friendly LFS. They should give you some.) and pour that onto your gravel or inside your filter medium. Add a heater to get the water temps up there like 90 degrees. The beneficial bacteria will grow faster with the heat. Once your ammonia and nitrite are 0, you should see a high level of nitrate. At this point, do a huge water change, as much as possible maybe even 90% and refill the tank with proper ph water for the Mbunas. The bag of coral should help stabilize your ph but test the water before you put fish in case of ph crashes.

Forget the fishless cycle just buy some hardy tetras and let them be feeders later. Your wasting valuable fish keeping time!

cause keeping feeders isn't?

True...Just buy the cheapest hardiest fish on your stock list and take your time adding the rest. Like a couple more fish every week (depending on tank size). Just test water every week before adding new fish. You'll be fine.
