Ok so one of our local LFS got two Green spotted puffer in and I've always been reading up on them since it's a dream to have one. Well yesterday I was looking for some stuff for my guppies (boring I know but I just love guppies) and buying a female betta for my Betta tank. So I have a empty tank that is already cycled and have some guppies in to keep it cycled until I can find the perfect occupant/s. I know GSP are brackish water and can even go full marine.

I didn't plan on buying the GSP yet because it will be the most challenging fish I have ever bought but hubby convinced me that I won't get this chance soon very likely since this is the first puffer I have seen on sale since I started keeping fish. This guy is still pretty small so my 20 gallon will work until I buy it a bigger tank for it.

This might even be my intro to my first marine fish tank who knows which I haven't done yet because it's also pretty daunting too.

Brackish shouldn't be too much trouble if managed well, and can't be that difficult.

I almost always see GSPs at the fish shops, even a few dwarf puffers and brackish archer fish

Good luck with it :)

GSP in my opinion can stay high end brackish, no need to drop them full marine unless you want to. Definitely do need high brackish water though....those were one of my first fishkeeping mistakes...

Ok so I ended up with two GSP fish. The lady at the LFS said both were kept in the same tank for about two weeks now with a couple of mollies and the never got aggressive so my hubby told me to take both.

I put loads of rocks and caves in their tank to keep them fom getting bored. I also hand fed both some crushed snails as I didn't have any snails small enough and they couldn't break their shell(which was blimming hard).

They ate well but now the one turned a little darker and his in the corner with his tale curled. The other one is hiding in one of the caves but his still bright green.

Should I be worried about P1 That turned darker as I read it's a sign of stress.

Oh the lady said they were treated for parasites when they came in.

Yes, the darkening of the belly can indicate stress. You really want to see a bright white stomach most the time but other factors like mood and social hierarchies seem to influence color too. I used to gauge the health of my GSP by stomach color. I would do a water change and maybe add a little marine salt and let him settle in.

Its probably stress. You should have seen the colour change my butterfly fish went under after it settled in

Put a divider in,the darker one is probably stressed by the other one,u can throw in some guppies if u aclimate them to the salt content .

Remember to only use marine salt. The stuff they sell in the saltwater section. I would stick with one puffer and some bumblebee gobies if you can find any.
