Ok. So I have made up my mind and I will be getting a payara. My dad has set up another tank and is going to order from Aqua Scape so I figured what the heck, I'll get one now since they have some 3.5-5'' ones. I of course am going to request the biggest like I always do when I order.
What do I need to know about these fish? What are your experiences with them?
I've always been afraid of payara, because I hear stories that they are hard to keep and very sensitive.Any truth to this or they hardy like per say a silverdollar or pacu?
As for feeding, will they accept live earthworms?
Looking forward to one. :) Should be getting one Wednesday.

Keep the water clean. Make sure you're able to get a big tank once bigger. It'll grow fast.

Likely getting fed feeders at the lfs. Can try the worms and see if they take it. But careful with starving at that size.

Okay awesome. I do very frequent water changes. Other then the clean water and frequent feedings, are they hardy like silverdollars? I am sure with due time I can get it off of live.

If you have other fish with it eventually it will take cut shrimp and fish. Mine was easy to get off live
Awesome I feed cut shrimp and tilapia.

Very flighty, prone to smacking the side of the tank and killing themselves, love high flow, dangerous with tankmates, difficult to get off live foods without teacher fish.
Points well taken, I will have this in mind for when I get one/

Payara are very sensitive at that size. So much so that if I were you id buy 2. If not possible just make sure you have lots of oxygen running in your tank. Everything else looks like it has been covered already.
