I can't decide. It's really down to buying either a juvenile viper gecko or a sub-adult mangrove monitor. Of course with the mangrove I'll be buying the materials for a home built cage (and building it of course, a 2 piece cage for easy shipping/moving). I'm just curious on everybody elses thoughts.

Also, an update on my beardies: I'm pretty sure skeeter is some sort of fancy type, he just has so much orange in him! The colors and designs are just amazing (found the macro setting on my cam, will update later). The other (the fem) is just massive. Skeeter hasn't grown too much but she's gotten decently large (and yes they both eat regularly, i usually hand feed them a couple greens after their crickets as well).

well if you do get a mangrove monitor be prepared because they are much harder to take care of than viper geckos. If unless you are experienced with herps than I stick to the viper gecko. BUt If you have experience I would love to see a mangrove monitor.

I personally would get the mangrove but that's just me...geckos somewhat bore me.

Wow, these animals are at two extremely different ends of the size chart. Look at it this way, one you could keep for life in a 10 gallon aquarium and the other you could keep for life in a enclosure the size of your living room. I'd get some more experience under your belt before you jump into large varanidae keeping.
