I'm doing some downsizing of tanks and american cichlids and my buddy is downsizing some of his fronts to get wildcaughts. So, I'm ending up with 14 juvie burundis. I should have them in about an hour and ill post some pics up. They'll be in my 55 til they grow out and will be moved to my 150 (which will be replacing my ca/sa stock)

Burundi are great to start with. They were the first fronts I owned. Fronts are extreamly pleasing fish to own. they get the size of some of our favorite central and south american cichlids but keep the aggression levels minimum. Its nice when you can have more than one big cichlid in a 6 foot tank.

^^^ Youre exactly right. Two of my buddies are into fronts big time. I actually ended up with 14 juvie burundi at around + or -2". I would like to keep some other africans in with them to give a color contrast. Is there any other species that work with fronts?

maybe tropheus?

no, but yellow labs are pretty chill... i feed with spectrum cichlid formula, and both my haps and mbuna (and tropheus btw) love it!

Ok. So far these fronts have eaten bloodworms, brine shrimp and devour sinking carnivore pellets. Theyre all about .5-1" I think I may go with some yellow labs

I have all three variants of frontosas- burundis (24) mimpbewes ( 18) and zaire blues (16). In the beginning they were housed to together in a 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 tank. Began to be move them into separate tanks recently as this will help me to highlight their suttle difference. With burundis I use white fine coral sand. This prevents then form becomming too dark, for zaires when I di that they become too pale so I use black gravel wow the difference - their colors intensify and their blue hues are highlighted and they are really beautiful

Instead of Malawis which are very hyper and they get to the food before the fronts try instead use altos or lelupis. They will be more suited to fronts

Tropheus - yes and no. Tropheus can be nippy and those long fins take some punsihment. Howeevr if you dont mind tropheus is fine

^^Thanks! I'm fairly new to africans but I just got 6 small yellow labs to grow out with the fronts. I really like the yellow/blue contrast. Any more ideas?
