...and purple. I've had my tank established for awhile now, and went through the reduction of aggression by controlled overcrowding with much success. I started with the local large chain FS, and then found a few ma and pa's until I found a great store, with a great selection of healthy cichlids. So my current collection is from four different fish stores!
Now, when I look at my tank, although I have personal affection for all of my fish, I see that it's all mixed up visually. I know that sounds so, interior decorator, but as my plan to get rid of my excess fish as they get larger unfolds, I find that I want to stick with cichlids that are/have either blue or purple only.
I think it started when I saw a Bruce Willis movie where there was a large cichlid tank and all of the fish were either blue or yellow. It really looked cool.
Well, controlled overcrowding is great if you know what you're doing, but since I started while my fish are still juveniles, I will need to thin the herd as they grow. I will just get rid of my non-blue or purple fish. The great fish store I mentioned, called The Reef, in Anaheim, also gives store credit for the fish I bring in.
Kind of crazy, eh?
