Im going to LA but my aba knife. I dont want it to die. Im leaving in May 7 up to May 19 but I dont know what to do. Its just a 4 inch aba aba. What can I do to make it live. Wont it die even 12 days without food and water changes. Pls help as soon as possible. :(

dude thats nothing !!! fish in the wild dont eat everyday :) do a 50% water change before u leave and over feed him also the day before u leave , i do this every time and i was gone longer. See u in LA! :D

You have nobody to help you out? 12 days is not a really long time. What size tank in the knife in? Is it the only fish in the tank? For a 4 inch fish it would not be a good idea to go 12 days without food. You could possibly add some feeders if the knife is alone. Maybe throw a few dozen guppies in there.

yeah but he is leaving soon tho and that might be worse adding un Q'ed feeders and risk his fish being sick when he's not there. and really its only 10 days if he's leaving that day and feeds him then when he gets back he can feed him and give him a good water change,

I do hav someone to help me out although I dont trust them that much. Its very difficult to find an aba aba in the philippines and I dnt want to lose one.

... some of the answers where obviousely not from aba owners. My advise.. is get some feeder fish... and stock the tank well before you leave. at 4" 3-4 doz feeder guppies should last 2 weeks. If you trust this person to do a water change.. that is the best thing they can do for your fish while your away. even a 50% WC mid-way threw your abscence should help maintain your water quality. and a number they can reach you or a LFS you trust to give good advise should anything run amiss.

You may also consider talking to your local LFS about "boarding" the fish while you are gone. But unless it is a place you trust 100% I would use this as a last resort.

I've found someone who genuinely shows concern for your pet but may not have a clue what they are doing is better then someoen who has an idea but doesn't really "Care" about the animal. leaving detailed instructions will make sure even the most ignorant person with your pets health in mind will follow them to a T... where someone who doesn't care won't really read or follow instructions that precisely.

I would also suggest if you have a larger tank ready for it thats cycled to move it now. the larger volume of water available the more pollutants will be dissolved, thus the larger buffer you'll have for water quality to go awary. BUt I would only do this is the tank is fully cycled and ready to hold your fish.

Be careful when you feed your fish the feeders, cause in one of my tanks for some reason the feeders that don't get eaten end up dead in about an hour or two(weird). So if this would happen to you and your gone for 2weeks then your fish will probably end up dead due to the fact that the feeders died and fouled your water. So what I would do is put the feeders in a day before you leave and check to see how everything is the day you leave. GL

My aba aba doesnt eat feeders and thats the problem. How I wish its already around a foot.
