im gonna make my own f.h. what should i use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you use a trimac, you get the "dime a dozen" - If you want something truly unique, use something different.

But you can be as creative as you want - the trick is to getting a compatible pair, and then another compatible pair, as you back-cross, etc.

make sure the kok gene is there though. breeding large kok into ur own fh is hard. trust me i tried. its easier when u start with a fh and bred it to somthing else.
i went midas to trimac. and then thoose babys to a reddevil male. then back to the grandmother trimac<thn she passed away :( >. then i broke down and added a flowerhorn zz into the fish breeding. i got a higher percentage of better fish and kok as soon as i added a real flowerhorn into the line.
im gowing some nice kp x texas that i might add into it also.

texas are nice for pearls. but hard to get good kok genes

king kong parrots have sweet fading genes/ shortbody/ warped tail/ and monkey face genes

midas and redevil are good for fading/ water kok/ and hard kok

trimac are boring in my opion and should only be used as a base for pearls/flower/ and norm body

syns have great genes and make good rbks but lack kok and are real late bloomers not showing potential until 6 inches sometimes.

all my nicer batches were flowerhorn x flowerhorn. there is a reason why flowerhorns look nicer now the n 6 years ago , the hobby has come along way with selective breeding so trying to make ur own is like taking steps back, i recomend buying a flowerhorn and mixing it to a pure fish. this could lead to more pretty fish and ur own fh to! ethier way good luck, have fun and show pics!

also zz's are one of the flowerhorn strains that are 99.9 percent fertile

How come a lyonsi never comes up in FH breeding? To me they are perfect starter fish. They have very vivid patterns, red eyes, red fins, pearling, and nice body forms like zz's. I want one so bad... can't find one around here lately. Some of them can be a little dull... guess the trick is finding a nice one to start with.
