This was our second Thinbar Dat. The first was lost due to a 3 day power outage back in the early '90s. A year ago we got one (not easy or cheap in our area) and put in our 150. It's been thriving and growing in there. Then on Christmas Eve it started to go belly-up. I tested the water and as usual everything was ZERO. PH 7.6 and fairly hard. I immediately added Pimafix (which is like a drug for fish let me tell you) and salt and she (we called her Sheila) revived and went back to feeding and behaving as usual.
Feeding from my hand
He-She-iela ate last night and seemed fine still this morning but after we came back from town we didn't see him/her right off because it hides... Then we spotted the fin. Motionless. I reached in and found a dead Dat stiff with rigormortis.
I do not know what happened to it. It has been one of our goals to grow out a Datnioides Macrolepsis and; well, I don't know what happened. There is a large Scat in the tank, in fact it is the Mayor of the tank, that is doing awesomely well so brackishness isn't my concern - but - I do not know what happened.
Here is a picture of Sheila I'm posting in his/her/it's memory. Good night to you all and I wish you a prosperous year.
