I took my ten gallon, which has been just sitting for many months, and decided to turn it into a planted aquarium. I did just that, have some java ferns and other assorted plants in there now, anyway, the guy I got the plants from told me the plants would have snails on them, and if I didn't want snails not to purchase those plants. I told him it was alright, I was actually hoping to get a few snails in there to have something to stare at every now and then. I put some (cheap) shrimp pellets in there for the snails to feed on, and so now, a week later, I'm not surprised to see planaria/nematodes in there. I don't have any plans to add anymore food, but I also didn't want to gravel vac since I wanted to make sure my plants rooted nicely (or at least I was told to try not to disturb the roots). Anyone know whether if I just leave the tank alone for a while, these unsightly things will just go away on their own?I've heard that fish eating them, but I'm not sure whether that's such a great thing or not. I wanted some bottomfeeders for this tank, very lightly stocked with just the plants (2-3 fish total, after the plants are growing nicely). <No real knowledge on these sorts of things, still a total newbie.>
Thanks for any info,
