I have a 60 gal that I setup not to long ago say 2 months african cichlids and I started getting alge and i used alge tabs and now i have this clear slime on my gravle and my nitrite is high what should I do?

i had a similar problem with my community tanks when i first got my pacus...........i used a treatment called fungus clear made by Jungle.....picked it up at petco.....they are dissolvable tablets....i treated the tank for three days.....after five it had cleared up......good luck with your tank.........

Vacuum the gravel and treat with prime for the nitrite. You might also consider adding live plants to control algae.

Gravel vac and water change and treat the tank and water change again. Aquarium salt helps keep flare ups like that at bay.

Also africans usually keep algea in check as they graze on it. Cut back on the feeding when you get a bloom and they will attack it.

Not all Africans are algae grazers. However, you definitely need to change your water, vacuum the gravel, etc.

I see two problems,
first, the alga tabs killed the algae but left the dead algae in the tank to break down and did not solve the problem which is to much nutrient and light.
Second, the slime is either bacteria or possobly mold feeding on the dead algae and producing nitrates.
IMO you need to stop dosing the tank and cure the problem, not treat the symptoms.
Gravel vac the hell out of the tank and do a couple water changes, you might also add 1 tbs of aquarium salt per 5 gallons water while you are at it. Next add some fast growing plants like java moss, java fern, or elodea. And last evaluate how much light the tank is getting, especially direct sun, then sheild it from the sunlight with drapes or tank background. this should keep the slime from coming back, prevent (or at least slow the growth of algae, and if you keep up on water changes/gravel vacs and disrding old growth ont the plants it will also pull down your nitrates.
