Alright i live in tennessee and am moving to panama city. Its about a 9 hour drive. I have a 55 gallon tank i plan on taking a week before the 180 gallon. I was just wondering if the bacteria in the filters will survive the trip and what is the best way to transport them. I have a hob filter for my 55 gallon and two canister filters for my 180 gallon. Once i get down there with my 55 i plan on setting it up immediately so i can get the temp and everything so when i move the 180 i can just put my fish in the 55 until them temp and up in the 180. Any advice or suggestions.are.appeciated because ive NEVER done anything like this before! Thanks for your time

I would transport the bacteria media you have in the filters now with the same (old) tank water...bacteria should be fine and tank should be ready to go...depending on how heavy your stock will be, you may or may not have a small mini cycle, just keep an eye on it.

+1 to this. You could also add pure ammonia to the bad the bio media is in to keep it fed.

I would keep your media submerged in tank water but open to air and you should be fine(like in some disposable cooler).

If you really want it fed, just throw in a couple feeder gold fish that you don't care about or snails as bioload but for 12 hours you don't have to worry about that.

Just individually (double) bag all of the fish (after 3-4 days of fasting them) in de-chlorinated tap with a chunk of Polyfilter...put them in a styro or two...and roll.

Probably makes sense to check along the way that no bags are leaking or lost air.

Just toss your media in a bucket with a little water. There is no reason to transport the water from your existing tank... or all of your gravel. I'd just take a bucket or so (just keep it moist).

When you get to your destination, set up the tank, add the gravel and new dechlorinated tap, hook of the filters with the old media, add the fish and you'll be good to go.
