Who else is in NC? Where should I fish first? Anyone else onboard Camp Lejeune? Looking for local intel and reccommendations.

I used to be based in Camp Lejeune, but I wasn't into fishing or fish-keeping at the time. I'm now out in Western NC, about 6 1/2 hours from there. I'm still not into fishing, so I can't help you with good spots, but I do know of some decent fish stores if you ever head out this way.

Semper Fi!

Definately interested in good fish stores. I have family in TN so I plan to be travelling westward on occassion. Also wonderring where I can get 200 to 400 gallon acryllic tanks.

Well, around here there's Asheville Aquarium/Java Reef (coffee shop inside a LFS). They tend to have more saltwater selection than fresh, but also have a decent amount of pond supplies (which can be used for very big tanks as well). They have a 500 gallon acrylic tank along with many other good-sized display tanks for both fresh and salt. Although those tanks don't seem to be for sale, I know they take orders for custom tanks for both glass and acrylic. I think they do have a used 300 acrylic for sale...I just haven't asked how much they want for it yet.

If you don't mind doing a good quarantine and want some more rare fish, WNC Aquariums specializes in hard to find stuff. Their staff sucks though, and they don't keep the place well.

Both Petsmart and Pet Supermarket keep their fish well here. Petco sucks though.

The next time I head over to Greensboro, or up to Cherokee, I intend on checking out a couple of places, but I haven't done too much shopping outside of Asheville.

As a side note, I have some friends that are into fishing that I'd be happy to ask where to go whenever you come this way.

Great info. thanks. and yes please ask your friends. I also have a two person kayak and noone to help me paddle since my wife has decided she does not enjoy kayaking or fishing.

Do they have snakeheads in NC? Whats the law concerning them?

There have been a few instances of snakeheads being caught in N.C. waters. You're supposed to freeze them and turn them in to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission after calling for instructions.

Yep, but that's true everywhere in the U.S.
