Im Moving

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1. How far will you be moving?
2. Obviously to place the fish in while moving... :duh:
3. Packed/Contained together with the fish

what kind of fish are you moving?
How many fish are we talking about?
what size tank?
How far are you moving?

Its good to take at least 40% of the old tan kater with you to put back into the tank when you get it moved. Help keep it cycled or recycle faster.
Can always (depending on tank size and water amount) put water in buckets to take with you or get a 55 gallon drum and fill up with tank water to take with you.

Sell the 55Gal and buy a larger tank or start looking for another home for the aro is my first suggestion or look for a much bigger tank. Even the 2 green terrors alone in a 55gal is overstocked.
Second suggestion is to only take tank water for your fish and for your bio bacteria.

When i moved my first two times I only had my 150 Gallon. I took as much water as i possibly could, kept the biomedia from my filters submerged in water, and put my fish in a 30 gallon storage tote with a battery powered aerator. I put the water in storage totes and coolers. Was able to bring about half the water with me.

1. How To Transport The Fishes?
Take a container and fill it with 100% new water. Treat these fish as if you're shipping them. Also, depending on how far you're driving, you could add a heater/air bubbler to make it less stressful for your fish. Also, try selling that 55gallon for something larger.. that aro isn't going to do well in it.

2. Do I Need To Take The Water?
Depends on what you mean by taking the water. You should keep your filter media submerged in the tank water at all times. The water in the tank doesn't need to go, get rid of that.

3. How Should I Transport The water?
If you have HOB filters then you should place them in a bucket. If you have canister filters then just turn the canisters off and don't let the water drain out. Refer to my answer in question 2 if you're asking about the water in the tank.

What do you mean by 100% new water? Everytime I've transported fish or had them shipped, I've used water from their tank. 100% new water from the tap sounds like it would stress them out and possibly kill them.

when i moved all my fish (when they were babies) i just Asked my lfs for a few bags and they gave me them and i bagged them up and thats how i moved my fish it was about a 30 minute drive
