Would it be okay to have a violet Goby and a crayfish together?
I'm assuming no but I have few options right now. I had two VG's in my main tank but my cichlid's were beating them up and one died. I moved the other into my 20 gallon with my crayfish, tetras and bettas and I'm worried about the crayfish killing him as he spends all his time on the bottom. The VG is about 7 inches and the crayfish is only about 3. ( rough guess on the sizes)

Know what kind of crayfish it is? In most all cases, mixing crays and fish usually ends up bad for one of them. The cray might catch a fish sometimes, or the fish can kill the cray when it molts. Only cray I know of that is 'relatively' safe with fish is a Marbled Cray, but even they can snag an occasional fish.

In this case I probably wouldn't worry about the 3" Cray harming the 7" Goby, but the Goby might make a snack of the cray next time it molts.

+1 does not seem like a big issue aside from the cray grabbing the goby. This situation might change very rapidly for one of these guys though.

I really doubt it. They eat mainly algae don't they? I feed him shrimp pellets and algae wafers but I Can't see him eating the cray. They have a very small throat which makes it difficult for them to eat anything except the smallest of foods. I even have to break the pellets for him.

She has her own cave and rarely leaves it anymore. She used to all the time but hasn't for days.

I think they have teeth.. I know the throat is small, but when a cray molts it's very squishy and can't defend itself at all. Goby might be able to take a bite out of it. They are omnivores. Might be ok for a while, but not sure I'd make them permanent tank mates.

Give the cray a place to call his territory and it will probably stay there, until nite. They wander at nite and ALL fish are in some danger.

Goby is large enough that I don't think the cray can really do anything to it. The cray might clamp on a fin or something, but unless the goby just lays there and lets the cray chew on it, it should be able to avoid contact.

On a side note, Aren't violet gobies brakish fish? Do you have salt in the tank?

Aren't violet gobies brakish fish?

They are but they can live in fresh just fine. The goby is almost a year old and has lived in fresh water his whole life.

My crayfish ate my frog. I put my adf in the 20 gallon because my cichlids ate my last one.
