Hi everyone,

I'm a new user to the site. Been browsing here briefly and decided to post in the pike section because i am interested in purchasing one.

I have a 36"x12.5"15" tank right now with 1 Jack Dempsey (3.5"), 1 Female Con (3"), 1 Firemouth (2.5"), 1 Green Terror (2.5").

What kind of pike would you recommend out of the crenicichla family? I'm looking for a least to moderate aggressive type and one that grows up to 5-8" full size, to be more compatible with the other fishes.

I'm thinking about either one of Sveni, Compressiceps, Regani or Reticulata. Any Thoughts?

Well compressiceps is a touch to aggressive with bluffers like a JD or firemouths. They don't handle bluffs well, mine took out a much larger JD and an even larger one had to be moved.

Regani would be pushed around too easily in that crowd.

I think Sveni would get too big, around 12" or so ...

I think a proteus would fit the bill assuming you'll be getting a larger tank of course.

I do not think sveni get 12" ...I think a belly crawler might suit your needs though?

Either go for sveni, lucius, or proteus. Those would be your best bets. More colorful, more active, and easily attainable.

sp. 'bellycrawler' are a good idea as well, just aren't as flashy or as 'active'.
