The Capital Cichlid Association is hosting the American Cichlid Association Annual Convention in Silver Spring, MD on July 21-24 (www.ccadoesaca.com).

While we have literally hundreds of people attending the convention from both the local area and elsewhere, not that many folks on MFK have indicated that they will be attending.

It would be great to get some idea of what is keeping cichlid enthusiasts from attending the convention.

This poll allows multiple responses...and is anonymous...

Thanks,
Matt

It's not so much that it's too far, just not enough spare cash to cover the distance. The how far in and of itself isn't the problem, it's the overall expense of traveling at this point and time.

Cost of travel. Maybe darth pike and I can do a road trip a la Dumb and Dumber there?

Since 1991 there have been two conventions that have been ~ a 13 hour drive from Seattle at the closest.

Anyone know where 2012 and 2013 are going to be held?

Here's a map I just threw together of the last 20 years of the ACA. Little skewed towards the east to say the least.

And there are duplicates in Atlanta, Georgia, Chicago, Illinois, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Too far, and too expensive. I'm in CA. I wouldn't travel more than an hour or two to attend (driving). I'm just not the interested in conventions and hanging around with old school pretentious hobbyists.

I dont have the time or finances to attend.

Luckily i live in Cincinnati, and it seems it comes to me once every 4 or 5 years.

Ok, I was just going to gloss over this since I just don't give much of a damn any more about internet forums, but I'll bite. So you're saying old school cichlid keepers are pretentious? I've met way more pretentious ass hat "new fangeled" keepers that think they know everything and no one could improve what they do than the old timers I've met. Many of the most humble, knowledgeable cichlid keepers I know were keeping cichlids before I was born, while most of the douche bags I've met have been keeping them just long enough to think they know everything (2-5 years I'd say). You're making generalizations and assumptions.
