ok i bought a 120 pre drillied with the over flow pipe and an outlet pipe coming from the bottom.... i just pluged the outlet and have the hose over the back with a defuser. but the overflow pipe just makes this annoying sucking toilet sound that drives me crazy!!!!! i have two pumps on it that add up to about 800 gph a liitle more. so what do yall suggest i should do to eliminate this noise???
i also dont like the random pipe bc it looks stupid and is in an absolutely idiotic place
it is a liitle off center but has a cap on it that is about 1/16 of an inch from the support in the center. as in from the top of the cap to the under side of the support.
i was thinkin of hang on box but i already have the holes and like my tank close to the wall so give me your sugestions ideas anythin guys im really open to anythin !!! just make the noises go away!!!!

Is the drain pipe under water in the sump? If it is, it is creating a syphon that is sucking the water down the pipe faster than it wants to fall. This causes it to suck air which gives you the toilet noise. Also, try sticking an air hose about 6 inches down the drain pipe and let the other end hang out of the water and see what that does for you.

oh wait i miss read your post. no it just dumps striaght down onto a drip tray
and is there anyways to get some mid level water thro the sump?

if my drain pipes get underwater in the sump they still make the noise with the durso standpipe :nilly:

not that this is the OP's issue...lol

that's because the overflow pipe is capable of flowing more than what the pump is actually pushing out. what you hear is the gurgling noise from the excess air in the drain line. if the overflow is flowing exactly what the pump is pushing out, there is NO NOISE at all!! you do this by putting a valve on your drain line and closing it slowly until your overflow is matching the pumps output.

check out a video of the setup in my 57g. no noise at all ;)

i read on the durso site that they recomond a 11/4 in hole. im pretty sure mine it bigger than that. so do i but a smaller pipe comming from the bulk head ?

no, thats only for smaller holes. a lot of smaller tanks use a 1" bulkhead, so they recommend going up to 1.25" for these since it works better. they say if you have a bigger bulkead, like 1.5" or 2", just use the same size piping, dont worry about changing sizes

oh ok. yea i think i should be able to fill that with about 900 gph
not sure bc one is about 350 and the other is like 600 thats at the head. so i have good flow. also is there anyway to get mid level water in?
also with the Durso do i need a box around it?

no box needed, it's the same concept as yours. as for mid water, i have no idea, easy/cheap enough to give it a try see if it works.
