Yesterday, I left for 2 hours and my Rhom (6.5") was dead. I stood there in shock because I always change the water every two days and always kept him fed. Then I touched the glass. It was very hot. The heater malfunctioned. The water was very hot. That sucks.

I ended up feeding him to my 20 red bellys.

How can you prevent a heater from malfunctioning. It was one of those topfin submersible heaters I think I paid $25 for it. I think I will be looking for a better heater before I look for another Rhom!!!

Sorry for your loss. That would piss me off too.

I lost a colony of Frontosa that way about 7 months ago. It was a titanium heater with abad controller. i have now gone to visa-Therm Steatlh heaters as many have suggested it to me.

accidents happen, no way to completely preapre for them

wow that sux!! Sorry to hear! I know how much you liked that little guy! We've had a similar situation, only instead of getting hot, the heater wouldnt heat the water at all. No matter how high we would turn it up, it wouldnt work right. Fortunately, we got a new one before it effected our sanchezi.

Sorry about your loss. I had a heater malfunction a few years ago and lost some fish. Since then I have switched all my tanks over to the Marineland Visi-therm stealth heaters. They are very reasonable and all black, shatterproof and always maintain a steady temp. I highly recommend these heaters.

yeah we have a stealth heater in our 180, and have had no problems with it. It's also great when doing a water change since its shatterproof.

Sorry to hear,I lost a few tanks over the years to faulty heaters and it always sucks.
