Mile High in Northern AZ, baby!~
Images resizing 101
I have noticed in the forums that there are a few images that
create such a wide colum, that it is impossible to view the posted images correctly.

I like hi-res images to print photos from too, but c'mon there is no place on the boards for a 1867483 byte JPEG image. 2815 X 2112 pixels?...that's some cut & crop job huh?...=\
I see an interesting title to a new thread, I click on it, waiting to fill my eyes with some cool pix, then I'm like, WTF?! Where did my "side-scroll" bar go?!
Ahhh Man!! After about 30 or 40 revs on my mouses' wheel, I see a grainy image
appear and I'm looking at the retina of a friggin neon?!...

As the smoke clears from my overheated video card,
I just smile and thank the bandwidth gods, that I'm on a cable connection at
5 Kbps, and not still out in the sticks where the only way to get on the internet was a cheesey dial-up connection, that no matter how much I cussed, maxed at 28.2k.

Imagine if you will, a 17 minute wait, to view a friggin' Neon's Retina, suitable for printing a 3' x 4' poster?! WTF!?!!

We all been there and done that.

I myself, have been so excited to post a new addition, that I've blown it big time...

Ya'know, it goes something like this;
...just a few minor typos in the text,(no prob. fix 'em later)
...selected the correct image, (I thought)
...upload/close/submit reply...(by-passing the "preview post" tab of course)
and...
Oh Sheit!!
oooops too big...
dammit man...
WTF!?...oh well time to edit...
Oh no, somebody posted already?
Too late, edit tab is gonzer...
What?,
were they waiting for me to post a friggin' 2'x3' fish retina poster?
C'mon already! Give an Idiot a brake will ya? Arrrrrgh!!!

And you know what their post is going to say...

"Nice 20K gallon tank man"

"I didn't know you could grow-out a grain of live sand to 26 inches"

"Is that a 9 foot Arowana? What do you feed it?"

or how about,

"Nice tank, but could you please re-size the images?"
(you know he's cussing, like a madman)

Now here is something, I try not to do, (much).
That is, complain about something I am not willing to correct, or do something about.

So here is a quick tutorial on;
...re-sizing images for posting in the forum threads.

The simplest way, I found, is to use Microsoft Paint.
I know that anybody, that can afford a Monster Tank/Fish/Food,
should/does have a copy Windows XP (any edition) installed on their PC...
(if not, hit me up, by PM. I got a legit Windows XP Pro Corporate edition =P)

No more excuses like "I don't have photoshop installed yet" anymore.
If your PC has enough clock-cycles and you have the savy to run
Adobes' mind-freak program, Photoshop,
then MS Paint will be a no-brainer.

So from the top...
START> > > > > >
All Programs > > >
Accessories > > >
Paint > > > > > > >

Now once Paint is open, you need the image file and here
you have some options....

You can click on the File tab in the upper left corner of Paint.

On the menu that appears select Open and navigate to the desired image.
Highlight the image, then click on the
Open tab in the lower right hand corner of the frame, right above Cancel.
Your image will now appear in Paint
(well a small corner of that hi-res poster anyways =)
or...
After opening Paint,
Open a minimized window where the folder that the desired image is
located.
Then you simply drag-n-drop it into the Paint window and close that file.
Now for the easy part...
With the desired image open in Paint
Press your Control key and the W key...(aka Ctrl+W)
This will open the Stretch and Skew window.
All you have to do now, is select the re-size you want.
For example,
Say you want the image to be one half the original size,
You just press the 5, 0, Tab, 5, 0, Enter keys,
and BAM!!
Just like a starving Arowana snapping on Prawnz,
your image will be at 50%...

I try to get a size around 600 x 400 pixels or so,
they fit well.

Save the resized image by
pressing the Control key and S key, (aka Ctrl+S)
and then rename it,
(so you will still have the original Hi-res image for poster making or whatever)

Click on the Save tab,
and you now have a re-sized, MFK thread-ready image.

Cool 'eh?

Well there you have it, Simple image resizing,
for those of us that hate to see good pix in two zip-codes at once,
and we can't forget those unfortunate few stuck on dial-up, cussing
up a Storm!...
