Hey Everyone,

Does anybody have any experience with putting a 90 or 120 gallons AGA on nice hardwood floors in the living room for many years time?

I was thinking of putting a rug on the floor first, followed by the stand and tank but I do not want to permanently ruine my floors due to bending or cracking or anything.

Also a contractor told me that the larger footprint of the 120 (4' by 2') would be saffer to have on the 2nd floor of a house versus a 90 (4' by 1.5') dispites its additional 400 pounds.
Do you guys agree?

Any feedback would be greatly appreicated.

Thank you so much!

the larger the footprint the better, but i would still advise aginst a large tank like that on the 2nd floor. as far as the wood goes, it will get compressed through time and possibly ruin the floors. it may not do this with a rug, but im not sure. are the floors stained?? if so this will change color with age and you will have a very light spot were the tank once stood!! thats my past experience and i had to redo the whole floor just to get the stain to match.

Put it across the joists.

Also, putting this type of tank on any kind of floating floor will not work.

I am sorry I meant it will go on the main floor of my house and not 2nd floor.

even then its still wood. its better but not good enough. i would get your floors safety ratings per square foot before you attemp this. do the math and see where you come out.

Its hard to believe after all the crazy tanks I have seen on this site that no one has a 90+ gallon show tank in their living room on the main floor of a building? :)

Come on please give me some more feedback.

We have our 210 in the dining room. No basement, the house is built on a concrete slab. I'm not sure what you are asking.

If you have a basement, make sure you put it over the joists, like ewurm said. Otherwise, you should be fine. Putting down carpet underneath is not going to do anything for you, as far as spreading out the weight.
