hey, i have a male Mtn Horned Dragon who hasnt been eating lately, i think hes impacted as i have witnessed him eating substrate (i changed the type of substrate after that). im starting to be concerned about him because he looks malnourished, but his stomach is the size it would be after hes eaten a bunch of worms. its to the point where i think i need to give him an enima, but i have never done anything like that before. could i get some advice from someone who has had similar problems? and please dont reply to this saying "take it to the vet" because i am a college student who cant afford a $300 vet bill for a $50 lizard
thanks

Well for starters you can soak your lizard in warm water for about 20 minutes 2-3 times a day. That might help break up the impaction. But of course seeing a vet is still your best option. What type of substarte was your lizard eating?

Warm bath, let him soak, slowly massage his tummy each time, to try to get him to poo.

All the while, saving/begging to get him to the vet

talk to your vet about a payment plan:confused: it might work

Good idea. Appeal to your vets' Pathos. Tell him you love your lizard, and are obviously extremely worried about him/her, and it is obvious the lizard is in trouble. Ask if there is any alternate methods of payment (I.e., baby sit for a night, wash his/her car, help out in the clinic), and see what you guys can work out.

sometimes they will do work a little cheaper. my old vet helped me out many times when i was younger. they know if they treat you good than they can make a loyal regular customer out of you.

he was eating shredded pine or aspen snake bedding, but then i removed that and now have sphagnum moss. the terrarium is half water(82F) and he soaks himself in the water all the time. as for the vet thing, i dont even live within 50 miles of a reptile vet, the only one near me is a livestock vet :(

check wiith the reptile vet thats further away. they may be able to direct you to a regular vet that may be able to help you. i found my herp vet when i brought my brothers dog into get surgery. he wasnt advertised as a herp vet but he was able to help and he did a damn good job with everything..

everything is always worth looking into. also if there are any zoos or anything like that near you. check and see if they out source to vets or if they do there work at the zoo. if they out source ask them where they go.

also you can do what 2- 3 drops of mineral oil each day for 3 days and 1 drop a day for the next 2 days

and warm baths and see a vet
