I was gone the thanksgiving weekend and I came home to one of my males beeing impaled by a shed stinger. Any advice? Will it fall out on its own?

Good news is being on the edge of the disk it probably missed any vital organs. By the looks of it I don't think its going to come out on its own, your probably going to have to pull it through. Is the ray still eating and behaving normal? If it is then I'd say give it a few days and see if it works itself out.

From thanksgiving weekend? It look like your motoro skin is growing on the stinger it not just going to fall off since you have skin growing on it. This is tricky I'll let John g answer this one.

Rotary04s: I have six rays in there but I didn't notice it at all last week. I'm sure I would have because it is so prominent.

JohnG: Eating normally. So will wait a few days. However if Rotaryp04s is right and the skin is growing on it; will it be better to remove sooner?

Canada's Thanksgiving was on Monday.....

You are going to have to pull it out. I would grab some tongs and pull from underneith the ray. Have someone else hold a rag around the rays current stinger.

Also I can't see it on the bottom of the disk so its weird as t is pointy part out. Would you suggest just pull out as I'm not sure how I would hold him down or how I would do this?

You will prob do more damage if you pull it from underneith. Being there are edges on that stinger, its designed to go in, but rip more when comming out.
I would pull it straight thru from the top. Grab a pair of neddlenose and grab hold. Pull straight out from the top.
Let us know how it goes..

Grab a rubber made or something clear and put him in it.... then grab his tail with a rag (Carefully) and cover the stinger, then flip him over and pull it from underneith.... check around the mouth, sometimes rays like to chew on things and I think this causes some of these cases.... It is becoming more and more common laitly

OK, Its out!

I have an old style "grabber" for my planted aquarium. I thought that I would try those first as they have a pretty hard grasp before removing him from the tank. So grabbed the front of the stinger and he backed up and it slid right out. I would say there was a little resistance but not much. There was a little bit of blood on it. After removing it he swam up the glass and I can see his mouth I think the end of the stinger was in there?? So as turkeyboy85 said maybe he was chewing on it??
