Well I noticed on my 150 that my Fx5 was running really really slow. So I opened it up and found that the impellar snapped. Well first thing I did was go down to my LFS and order another one, 79.99, (ouch)

My question is that aren't they on a 3yr warranty from Fluval? Has anyone actually called them and got a replacement? I want to get this replaced within the warranty but have no idea on how to do it.

Yes they are warranted for 3 years and I know of 1 guy who recieved a replacement MOTOR assembly but none who have replaced just the impeller. I keep an extra impeller and o-ring set on hand just in case but I paid a LOT less than 80.00 for the impeller.

Contact Hagen BEFORE shelling out that kind of money. I've repaired similar damage on mag drive impellers before using a small dab of two part marine epoxy. In spite of all the brand hype out there....almost ALL filters and pumps sold for aquariums use slightly differant versions of the exact same design to move water.....

I had my impeller crack and they had me send the whole unit back and shipped me a new one.

The main reason Hagan and others do this is because impeller failure is usually caused by excessive vibration. Many times it's a defective motor assembly causing the viberation and just replacing the impeller could cause it to fail again somewhere down the line.

Yea I contacted Hagen and they said all I had to do is send them the impellar and they would send me another one, it is arriveing on Wednsday. Thing is it costed me like 28 bucks to get 2 days shipping and priority was 52!!! wtf this isn't right why am i paying for something that has a warranty!!

They probubly justify it because of the priority shipping. This is an example of who internet sales of these filters are cutting into the support base. We all want better than average prices but when the support suffers we are up in arms. Most dealers in our area would have swapped out the impeller for you...no charge as long as you purchased it there...
