Impellor replacement?

When do you know when an impellor needs replacement? It is something that you need to do few years or so?

if it stops, makes alot of noise or water flow is reduced. other than that just clean your impellors once in a while (depending on fish load). I have some that's over 12 yrs old!

cleaning it out during maint of filter will do wonder for life of the part. I always scrub it down with an old toothbrush.

Why do you think you need to replace your impeller? What is the problem you are having? Also, what brand filter & model?

Its a emp400, and as the above post stats if it stops,makes alot of noise, or you see reduced waterflow then you need to replace your impellor. My emp makes alot of noise and it was given to me. The guy said he had it running on his tank for 5 years, so it must have gotten worn down in his care.
