I've read and heard excellent things about Imperial Tropicals. Does anyone have experience and or opinions on their Red Devils in stock? I emailed Mike about them as well as suggested they look into carrying other members of the Amphilophus genus. Anyways, just thought I'd see what you guys think.

Thanks

I live about 30 minutes away from Imperial Tropicals and have had several email exchanges with Mike. He seems like a very friendly guy. I haven't purchased anything from him yet, but that is mostly because he doesn't really stock/breed anything you can't just buy in your LFS. He charges low retail prices, but that is because shipping is free for orders over $30 (and you have to be pretty picky to not spend $30 on an online order LOL).

He recently was advertising for a local breeder with experience in African Tangs and SA Brazilian cichlids to join his farm so he could expand his stock. I kind of threw my hat in the ring, but was passed over because he thought I lived in NC (my cell phone area code is from there). He let me know he wants to expand his Tang selection immediately and is building an area for soft water Brazilians that will be ready this winter. I look forward to seeing what he brings in for SAs this spring/summer and hopefully it will convince me to make a trip down to get some fish. :) Though if my white saums work out well, I might go get a group of gold saums from him to grow out. We'll see. :)

Don't know about the cichlids but mike's company is very reliable. He's an awesome guy if you want to ask any questions, got to collect some natives with him a few months ago when he was in pittsburgh.

I met Mike at K2. He is a really nice guy. Very genuine and knows his stuff. He had a lot of red devils with him at the show. They all looked very healthy. I purchased some rare corydoras from him and they are doing very well. Haven't met many nicer guys in the hobby than Mike.

Maybe ask the OP his source for the fish. That's a very fair question for any vendor selling livestock. I can buy "red devils" at the local Petsmart, but pure Amphilophus labiatus are not as easily found.

Agree completely. This question was definitely included in my email to Mike. I'm excited to hear back from him.

Cool, good luck with getting a nice one. I love amphs!
