Importance of Carbon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive always used carbon in my filters and lately I met and talk to a bunch of people that dont even use or even think of ever wanting it anywhere near their filters ..

Does it play a big roll in taking away fishy smells or no? thats why I use it in my filters but lately been just puttin less than usual in.

Carbon can be very useful... it can remove odor, stains in the water, medications, etc.

However, using carbon regularly is frowned upon in many circles and seen as unnecessary... Here's a good article on the pros and cons:

Certainly, no matter what the hobbyist chooses, it is no replacement for good filtration and regular water changes.

Thanks for the info, sounds silly but it has been something I have been questioning for a long time and thought to ask.
Again thanks for the info.

I haven't used carbon in at least 8 years.
There is one good use for the chem basket in your filter,
and it's moar bio media. (I recomend Matrix)
