i had this betta that had ich. i left her in a cup temporary that was on top of my30 g tank and went to doctor. i came home and found the betta missing. i suspect my catfish ate it because his belly was bulging. my question is can my catfish catch ich

The catfish and anything else in contact with the betta will contract ich. Treat the tanks where the betta had been kept in. If you decide on using salt, make sure to dissolve it thoroughly and add slowly to the tank. Many people make a mistake of not dissolving it and adding it directly to the tank thus killing a lot of fish in the process.

well i think the betta was in the tank briefly because she jumped from the cup, and the catfish ate it immediately. is that enough time for the ich to exit the betta

i would imagine your catfish could easily contract ich now. as lupin said, if your going to add salt just incase, which i personally would, add your desired ammount of salt to a net, and let the handle rest on the top of the tank with the net in the water.

aquarium salt isnt gong to hurt your catfish if used in the correct ammount, so its a cheap and easy way to do a preemptive strike on ich

Ich is already in the tank. You have to treat the entire tank.

If it was truley ich that was on the betta, than just add the salt and you will be fine. Alot of people think that any white substance on a fish is ich. And most of the time it is not. And maracide will kill the beneficial bacteria in your tank so just use the salt. use 1tbs per every 5 gallons of aquarium water. And when you change the water add enough salt to cover what you changed. Keep up the treatment for about a month.

sorry for the laate replys because i just got a cast on my arm, and its hard to type. But i was wondering if my water softener can help treat ich alittle bit

No, use table salt.
