,
i just setup my 150 gallon 3 weeks ago..
it has been cycling with 3 dozen small goldfish
today i noticed the goldfish caught a disease (ich) and now i'm very worried about the tanks future inhabitants...
i have a 2217 eheim on there and i put the carbon pad in there
if i put rid-ich in the tank, won't the bacteria die, and the carbon pad filter out the treatment ?????????
& it has been showing huge spikes of ammonia and nitrites... but no sign of nitrates yet :screwy:
and its been 3 weeks at 80*
how come ?????????
oh lol and i picked up one of the goldfish by hand with ich because it jumped out and i forgot to wash my hands and ate a slice of pizza lol....will the touching of the ich-riddled fish affect me internally ?????????
lol if anybody can answer these 3 ?'s, than i totally appreciate it ;););)

use aquarium salt to speed up the process and kill off ich.1 tbl spoon per 5 gal and you will be okay.bump the temp a little more also and I wouldnt worry about ich mouth:ROFL:

some say that you can buy it in bulk at a hardware store-depot lowes etc....but I never have.a lfs will definitely have it

no-wait is this a marine tank?salt?
nope, freshwater
i've always used the "treatment" salt that says you can use it for goldfish...it comes in a paper carton..
how about using marine salt ?
and how long should i put salt in ?
i just set the temp to 83* :)

I agree with itsbadlands. I don't ever use that rid ich crap.

i wouldnt use marine salt-use the paper carton API Aquarium salt. You only need to add it once and then after water changes. The goldfish will most likely die -some will anyway and thats good anyway.Just toss em right away so your nitrates dont spike. In my opinion, with death comes life.It causes bb to grow in the tank etc.good luck
