Well I went to Petco today, I had absolutely no intentions on buying another fish. But I am unable to leave the store empty-handed, so I bought the biggest rainbow shark I could find, and use it as a target fish for my breeding cons.

The lady that bagged the fish told me that these fish are very aggressive, and there’s a 30 day warranty if it harms or kills any of my fish. I replied that I wasn’t worried about it, because I was placing him in with a breeding pair of convict cichlids. Nevertheless, she looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language.

Right when I put him in the tank, he swam for the convicts’ cave. And you can guess what happened next. But let’s just say that he won’t be doing that anymore.

I suppose real sharks are, but I never understood why rainbows and red tail's get the bad boy reputation. They are basically sucker fish; they can't do any damage even if they wanted to. Anywayz, it is a good distraction for my cons; keeps my male on his toes so to speak.:D

people think that because they have a similar shape to sharks and that they are called sharks that they are killers like sharks, like the iridescent shark, which is just a type of pangaseus catfish they are only dangerous to other fish if they are big enough to swallow them. i guess a rainbow shark could scrape some scales off of a fish if it really wanted to.

In bigger groups they can do some damage, they suck all the slime coat off of scaled fish, which eventually kills them. We always had to keep the "sharks" seperate at the LFS I worked at, anything we put in with them wouldn't last long.

Just one or two is no problem, but a tank full is not a welcoming place for other fish.

I suppose you are right. So in that sense, they are basically CAE's with a sleeker body and longer fins?
