Hello MFK again, been a while since ive been on the Knifefish forum I must admit.

It been almost 3 years now that I've had my ABK. He's grown about an inch in that amount of time. He's about 4-5" in length.

Here's my problem, I am moving in about 3 months, and I can't take my 56 gallon tank with me, but the place I am moving to will allow smaller tanks. I am setting up my 12g Nanocube as a small tetra community, but he'd eat all the neons I'd plan to put in there, so would he be alright going in a smaller tank?

I arrived at this because I hate to give him to the petstore where they dont even acclimate donated fish, and any other owner would not understand that the ABK would be utterly lost without his home PVC pipe. But I think that he would be fine in a smaller tank seeing as he only roams about at night, and it would only be him in that tank. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Not in a 12g, but maybe in a 25 or 29. Yeah they don't get around much, but they still need the room to cruise around in for sure<at least the 3 I've had cruised around and explored every square inch of the 55 then 90 I've had them in>

he'd really need his own 29g to be happy?

i would have to agree with a 29 being the min for one .mine is in a 29gal atm and at 4 to 5" but when at a max of 8" i still see it being a tight fit with how he darts all over.

You could also try a 20g Long. It's the same length and width as a 29g, but shorter.

if i am able to do a 20L, tankmates?

Cory cats or something like that, they won't bug him and he won't bug them.

I agree about the larger tank size though. Mine is all over the place all day long in my 90gal. Also, he can do without PVC you just need to have some sort of hideaway. I very much prefer the more natural look of driftwood and rock caves. Jmo though.

probably no driftwood for this tank, leavin the tank bottom open.
