In breeding.....what is your take?

the best EBJD lines I've ever seen where carefully line bred.. not inbred... can be a fine line but when your breeding generations its not good for the species as a whole in inbreed. One of the reasons i like my fish WC vs always tank bred if i intend to try and breed them. One of the reasons i started with retics wasn't just being cheap rays.. when i purchased them i bought them at different time intervals and different lfs who used dif distuributors to ensure as geneticlly diverse fish as possible ot start breeding.

I have seen some horrible defects due to inbreeding in some african cichlid species. but this imo has taken 10-20yrs at times of inbreeding... so many generations. it's OK to inbreed/line breed fish imo more then other animals particularly mammals. But ime the best breeders/fish line breed very selectively vs inbreed. inbreeding tends to yield higher culling as well ime.. imo that are signs that the line is weakening not strengthening when the goal should be in part healthier fish not just pretty ones.

Most people who have F2 or F3s is a result of some if not complete inbreeding. You get a F1 pr breed them, put the brother and sister together get F2s. I know some people have done this on more than one occasion. I believe it's fine to line and in breed if its only for short term generation. Not repeated generations. If by some chance a defect does appear then obviously they are not compatible and stop.

All pure breed dogs are the direct result of line breeding and in breeding.

You can have a WC couple produce F1, and another WC couple do the same, put the kids togehter and you get f2 without inbreeding. But there is not really a problem with inbreeding aslong as you dont go to far.

I agree. But I'll bet a few out there in breed from there one and only wild caught pair. If we're talking multiple generations from captive bred parents to start then even more inbreeding going on. Basically it's not an issue unless you carry it out for multiple generations.

The chance of it happening are only a problem when buyers only buy from one breeder

But a lot of people are breeding now so more chance to mix things up a bit
