is it legal to use an umbrella net, or a fish trap? cause apparently casting nets are illegal which i think its rediculous. because apparently u COULD be using it to catch baitfish.
:bs:

you have to get a permit if applicable. if you can then you can use a 4' cast net. but if i could speculate... you apparently wouldn't with your choice of words(psychology expert). if you can get the permit it applies to canals and waterways. but for the price of a cast net you can buy baitfish from a local baitshop to fill a 300G over time obviously. but for now it would fill a 55G to the max

so i have to have a permit to use a cast net? and are traps legal????

i looked in the ohio fishing regulations and saw nothing about a cast net permit. so u might not be able to use them at all. just google ohio game commisson or ohio fishing regulations. i thought you were in lake eerie pa side.

you could go to the bait store and but shinners, fatheads, and creek chubs to use for bait. Erie is walleye and small mouth haven. So you could get by using crawlers and leechs.

What kind of fish do you want to catch?

anykinda game fish liiiiike walleye smallmouth and well tons of other fish

I live on Lake Erie.
Walleye I use a nightcrawler harness, and attach it to a sinker about 2.5 feet above the harness. I troll the lake shore from 30-70ft depending on the year. 1.8mph keeping the bait about 5-10ft off the bottom usually. Just caught 5 last night in 50ft using that method.
Smallmouth is way to easy imo. Go to a creek and some crayfish, take the claws off them, and attach a hook through the tail and use a sinker. This is very important. FIND A ROCKY AREA!!! Smallmouth love rocks, rock bars, structure, expecially in lake erie because that is where the gobys hang around. Cast out and bounce that sinker and crawfish along the bottom and be ready for a good time.
If you need anymore help let me know, I have fished it my whole life. lol You will do much better by using a boat.
