I am trying to reduce tank clutter so i was thinking about getting the Hydor 300 watt in line/external heater. Anyone have any experience with these? Would 300 watts be sufficient on the 80 gal as the sole heater keeping in mind that I live in CA and even in the winter without the heat on my house never drops below 60?

We had them on clearance at PETSMART last year, I picked up two and use them to heat my 120, they are absolutely wonderful. I dunno what full retail price is on them but I payed about $15 each.

I have the 300 as the only heater on my 75 and it keeps it steady at 80. I paid about $45 from BigAl's for it in 2005.

I have 2 Hydor 300 watt inline heaters on my 240 gallon and they work great! They keep my tank at a constant 80 degrees and I've never had to mess with them since I installed them. I have them on the return lines of my XP3s.

I would say a single 300 watt would be more than enough for your 80 gallon.

So I was just thinking that the output hose on the canister would have to be the same diameter as on the heater itself. Anyone know the diameter of the eheim pro 3 output?

i too am interested in these heaters for my 125g, i am getting 2 eheim cans and the return lines are only 1/2" but i would like 2 300w heaters and they are 5/8". will the eheim hose strech to fit them? i would go with 2 200w but we get power outages for up to a week sometimes and the house gets really cold so i run my tanks off of a generator.
