im looking for good info on bahia red geos. all i find on google is what size they reach say 10'', or they are mildly agressive prefer high water curent and alot of vegitation. spawn in substrate, temps, water hardness ect. guss i am looking for info from owners. as to what foods they prefer ect.

If you know anything about Geo Brasliensis you can base their habits with them. Practically the same fish. Just that the Bahia has more red in them. Brasiliensis are in my opinion, one of the more aggresive Geos available. These guys can actually hang with large cichlids like Managuense and Oscars. Havent seen them in a good while. Nice find Monsta.

They are one of the easier Geophagus to breed and raise. Males can reach 10" but I have never seen a female more then 7-8". They do not need soft water like many other geophagus, just clean water. Mine do great in hard tap water with a PH of 7.5. They spawn at an early age, mine started to spawn at around 2-2.5" and have continued to spawn as they grow. Mine always spawn inside a clay pot and are very good parents and defend there fry well. They are not nearly as aggressive as brasilensis but still are tougher then most geophagus. Similiar to steinys in my opinion as far as aggression. As far as tank setups go, you will need at least a 55g for a pair or larger for a group. Use pool filter sand for a substrate. A canister filter will provide plenty of current.
