I happened to run across a couple of good deals on some ocean clear canister filters. I'm getting ready to put in a oceanic 7' 220 gallon aquarium.

I'd like to use this canisters , however I never connected one up before. I've got an Iwaki RXLT30....will this be enough it's just a circulation pump?

Anyone have pics on how they installed theirs? I find if I can see a couple of pics it s better on my gray matter than reading poorly written instructions?
Did you diy the intake pipe ? How does this system prime itself?

Thank you

Sunday morning bump...!

Any advantage /disadvantage to placing pump before or after ocean clear canister?

I installed two Ocean Clear filters on my 210g. You want the pump pushing through the filters, not pulling.

Both of my filters were used, I had a hell of a time keeping the lids from leaking. I ended up buying new lid o-rings and using some food grade silicone lube on them. One of my filters was a UV model, which started leaking. I had to take it out so I'm only running one now.

I made my intakes, all of the plumbing is DIY. I will take a couple of plumbing pics and post them later today.

Circulation pump its not gonna work, you need any rated pressure pump, my preference when it comes to pumps; blue line, panworld, velocity3, iwaki, all these pumps are great for this purpose but remember pressure pump.
Now when it comes to set them up, you can go hard or flex plumbing, for your intake you can make your own using pvc pipes and fitting, very easy

Thanks looks like I'm going to have to buy a new pump.. Something like this
Pan World 50PX-X? any idea how much head height an ocean clear canister module adds to the overall efficiency?

Panworld? Blue Line aquatics? same pumps any differences?

The px-x pumps are circulation, you want a px; the model 100px would be a good start its rated 790gph at 21ft of pressure.
One question, are you planning on installing a single unit?
They can be set up in line 2 or more units, i like using the mech first, fallow by a bio, at least two units, nice filters.
I used the 100px model with two canister, and the flow its pretty decent, you can go higher if you want, but will need you plan your plumbing so you won't have too much flow over your bio

Thank you! I was going to drill my Megaflow 4 sump place the pump on it pushing this output through the final filter, an Ocean clear Model 375 w 18UV.

or do you think I'd be better keeping them separated ?

Don't need to drill the tank to installed one of this canister, but if its already drill better.
What other things are you running beside the single ocean clear?
If you have something else, sump or other canister I wouldn't run it together, for the simple reason that your sump my overflow when the canister clog, unless you have a back up pump for the sump. With other canister that its not ocean/nuclear it will leak big time because they are not pressure rated, so don't.

Ocean clear they are a bit harder to close the lid, thats the only reason i like more Nu-clear but its the same canister except for the ports and lid.
When you close an ocean clear use a rubber mallet, make sure the lid spins free to the point of stop, then tap it with the mallet, it will seal; i had the same problem once, I call Red Sea and that was the answer, never had a leak again.

This is my Nu-Clear 533 w/25 micron filter an 547 BIO filter with a
Blue Line 55 HD 1100gph pressure pump. The Nu-Clear has a 1 inch
in/out as the the Ocean Clear has a 3/4 inch in/out. I've never had a leak
with my lid. It's best not to use any pvc elbows if possible and I learn the hard way when I built a "Bottle Neck" with pvc it look like at the end of the filter >----< This will create a friction that kept my water temp in my tank at 90F 24/7 with out any heater.
