i posted this in one of my threads but wanted to give it its own thread. if you were to choose a cat much like the rtc but grows to under 20 inches, and eats like a rtc and acts like an rtc, what would you get? in my mind, a fowleri or arupnesis(sp?) would be it. i also know that there is no such thing as a substitute for the rtc cause they are just awesome. but input please!

I got a sub speices bumble cat of mines it has a gaint head and little body it doesn't ever move when it found a hinding spot it didn't move at all. Even when i did a water change and took it out of the tank and put it back it in. it just goes back into it's cave i made it in my 75gallon from him. :screwy: when i got it, it was 5inches now he's almost about a foot in 9months. it has the apitite of a RTC or even worst.:FIREdevil when i first got it it ate two rock bass at it own size and also has tha abilty to eat 12dozen minnows at one sitting!

wow a dozen minnows! might have to look into these guys. they dont grow too big right?

Not as colorful, however my vote goes to the bullhead. Black or Brown's max close to 20", very active, massive head and huge appetite.
There is a great thread by Sandtiger in the native forum on them.

Are bullhead cats easy to breed? Would they make good feeders for rtcXtsn, clown and royal knives?

I know they breed alot in the wild, but I think they breed in holes in the mud like many other species of catfish, so it may be difficult to breed them

Get a pictus. They are kinda like RTC.... But your really not going to get much that is like a RT that grows to under 20". I just got a marbled pim and he is alot like a RTC in his personality but he will still grow to like 30".
