so i want to get a new gar to grown out in a 55. in your opinion whats the best looking gar? but keap in mind i dont have tons of money to spend. so whats the best looking(fairly priced lol) gar?

florida/spotteds are a nice looking gar, especially when well cared for. Keep in mind no gar can live in a 55 for life, however.

you'll need a 2'wide at least for the smallest keepable gars(florida/spotted/tropical) in about 6months to a year.

Tropical Gar... $80 bucks for one is not bad it is about a tank of Gas these days and Two they are by far the best Gar species for captivity. Get one if you can.. Otherwise a Florida / spotted is not bad and a good second choice.

BTW guys (And gals) the OP said to grow out not to live in a 55... Really I could rant on this anyhow, but Tank size is not everything with these fish and in reality there is no defined Perfect size tank for a given gar until you know it's growth. Tank size for these fish should be based on the individual specimen not on a dogma or generalized formula.

A needle nose or hujeta gar.. AKA false gars..
I don't wan't to see the after math of something happening and it get stuck in the 55 at 16"...

Edit:
not saying it will but, I have heard BS stories of people saying they will get it a 300 gal next month or when it needs it, but then say things came up and they somehow can't get it etc...
