Anyone know where I could get a Bowfin, also known as Amia calva, blackfish, dogfish, and many other names. Been looking for one for a awhile and can't find one, even asked my LFS. If anyone knows where I can get one or has some to sell i'm in the area code 18072. I know a good deal about these fish but any additional info would help.

Thanks in advance.:)

I've seen then in our channel every spring at various sizes. It'd be pretty easy to net one, but your zip is a long ways away (michigan). Maybe you could ask some friends that live on a lake to look for them.

I've looked around here at two lakes for them, and whenever I go fishing and I haven't seen any, though it isn't unlikely that they can be found in this area.

I'd say look for a shallow channel type place on the lack right after the ice is gone. In our lake, it's a very mucky channel that's probably 18" of water, but you can't wade in because you sink so bad. It's before the lilly pads get up, and the weeds grow in, but I've seen young ones around there. Of course, it's sometimes hard to find them but I've had neighbor kids dredge the muck with nets to see what they can fine and come up with young dog fish.
