I cant beilieve wot ive just seen, i dropped one kick arse huge 4" earthworm in my tank for my cichlids to munch on an my 7" Tyre Track Eel Swallowed it whole!!! Im sure ive read somewhere these fishes can choke on anything too big. Anybody else heard this? I dont wanna be loosing it to a WORM of all things! :headshake :duh:

Chop up the worm b4 you stick it in your tank.

I was going to but its funny watching the cichlids, clowns and synodontis scraping over it. Didn't expect the eel to storm in there. Anyways, the worms will get the old chop chop next time.

He should be alright. My old TSN (talking about him lately makes me want another) used to pound earthworms his body length. They are soft bodied, so digestion is relatively easy. Make sure you ring out the worm before feeding, expelling the dirt and misc. waste within.

Cool....saw in some documentary that are deep sea fishes capable of swallowing a prey as big as they are!!

Fish don't choke. You'll be fine scouce mate.

Sound that kid, he's swimmin round on the prowl 2day. I've been feeding him every other day coz he really pigs out.

I have had fish die from eating catfish and getting the stuck in there throats, does that count? I have also had fish that swam around with worms or fish sticking out of their mouths because they couldn't swallow it all at once, small sunnies with worms and a 10" marbled goby eating an 8" LM bass. the ones that died were bullheads and a SM bass and something else that escapes me at the moment.
