Well come Sunday I'll be selling my cutteri cichlid pair so the first thought that came to mind was "no more territorial cichlids taking up catfish space!". Honestly I can't decide what catfish to get to take part of their place since there's so many good ones in my local LFSs! There are a few that I really have my eye on but they'd have to be growouts and while I am getting a 180 in a year or two I'm not sure it'll be tropical. So let's assume that it'd be tropical and any if the cats on the following list would go into a 180 gallon.

Here are the cats I've had my eye on:

Cats that could probably go in the 75 for life:
Chocolate Doradid (Acantharcus cataphractus)
10 year old 8" Synodontis Eupterus
Goeldiella eques
Black Lancer (Bagrichthys macracanthus)
Zambezi Grunter (Parauchenoglanis ngamensis)
Asian Upside Down Catfish (Mystus leucophasis)

Cats that would 100% sure be growouts:
Irwini Catfish (Megalodoras uranoscopus)
Granulosus Catfish (Pterodoras granulosus)
Brown Bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus)
Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) I'd only get one if I had someone with a very large tank I could eventually give it to.

Some of the growout cats may even get to big for a 180 and I have a plan B so that's not a problem. Which catfish do you guys think I should get? Also feel free to suggest ones that aren't on my list and as you've seen from the list my LFSs get some pretty rare catfish pretty often.

Would consider the black lancer. Not too available nowadays. Very nice looking cat. One of my favs of all time.

i have a brown bullhead. its a great fish. they get big but not out of hand big.

Id love a bullhead but the mess they make makes me worry I'd have to be doing 50%s twice a week! which is not happening, which is why I don't have discus :)

Granulosus... I love them!!!

Yeah but having cat for a few years I couldn't find myself to get rid of it after so much time. Soonest I could get bigger than a 180 would be approximately 8 years from now.
