my floor is happily supporting my current tank, but i would like to set up my new one in place of it. The new tank is the same dimensions, with an additional 12" length.

so, in theory, this shouldnt be a problem as it is be supported by more floor joists (which run perpendicular to the aquarium)

thoughts?

I would say that depends on if it runs perpendicular or parallel to the joist beams

I'm doing the same thing but I am puting up a six foot beam and two post just in case. I realy do not want to have to price firemen poles latter. The lumber and post are not to much at Home Depot

How bigs the tank.
if its only a foot longer it shouldn't be to much of a problem
but if your original tank was bending your floor to a degree then i might be concerned.

This is fine, i did the same thing. I moved from a 4x2x2 to a 6x2x2, my joists are soppurting the tank the same way yours is. I would go for more than 12" though because that isnt really much different.

Think about this. Tank and water about 1480. Don't know about your stand but mine is 235. 40 lbs of rock and what not. 1755Lbs. That is close to a ton. Realy think about it.

one thing in this hobby that will get u in trouble "in theory"
