Okay! Here is the scoop! I have been out of town on business in Dallas for a week. I got home around 7:30 Friday. I was very happy to see that my wife did not kill my fish while I was gone. When I walk in the door I notice that my house is the same temp as it is outside. I live in Alabama and that means it is HOT HOT HOT. My wife did not bother to tell me that our central air died thursday night. I called the emergency number of the AC repair people and they said they cant have anyone out until Monday. How am I going to keep my fish tanks cool so I dont lose all my fish?! I have fans going in the room right now but that wont bring the ambient temp of my house down. What the heck can I do!?

open lids for evarporation frozen water bottles in tank?

Most of my tanks are topless so that should be okay. I thought about ice but I didnt think about frozen water bottles, better go throw some in the freezer. Hopefully that wont cool the water to much. Should I leave the heaters going?

Heaters only come on when needed, so you don't need to unplug them or anything.

Best thing to do would be to set up fans that blow across the water of the empty tops. I'd try that first, ice water bottles can leave cold pockets leading to ich, ect ect.

was able to throw a window unit in and keep the room at 80 degrees, hopefully they will come out Monday and fix my AC.

Here in Taiwan summer night temps are about 29C, my tanks are all around that temp and my fish are fine, i do have fans blowing around them constantly and make sure you keep aeration up with the heat.

My Tangs are surviving the heat here and it's 32 degrees celcius even though I have a fan! If the temp. doesn't go too crazy high they should be able to withstand it as long as the there ain't big changes in temperature. GL!!

Its up to 82 F right now, I wish Monday would get here!

I agree. Avoid big temp change when you repair your ac unit, slowly bring down the room temp.

I keep my juvie fish around 80 degrees and never have any problems so temp. increase should not be a problem. I would just stick in a airstone or drop your water level a inch or two so any outflow from hob filters will drop into the tank and create air bubbles and surface agitation.
